Catherine Hendricks graduated from the University of Auckland, with an honours degree in fine art.

She has  lived in five different countries and many towns before finally settling in Auckland, New Zealand.  Along the way she has experienced different cultures and ways of life.  This almost Nomadic lifestyle has been highly influencial in the direction her art has taken.

Catherine has been investigating the relationship between memory, landscape and a sense of place.  Working abstractly, mostly with oil paint, but also at times, acrylics, pencil, watercolours and collage.  She has been exploring the familiarity of the landscape  linked to past memories of places she has lived, visited or just passed through.  These are glimpses of the world from various perspectives including aerial and topographical viewpoints.

The intention of these explorations is not to re-create images of places from the past, rather a combination of perceptions or memories, resulting in unexpected landscapes and a possible sense of familiarity for the viewer.
